When you’re embarking on a home renovation, you don’t have to go it alone. There’s a whole army of iPhone apps ready and willing to take their share of the load and make your job that bit simpler.
From deciding on the initial design to choosing your paint colours, checking your shelves are level to DIY advice, there’s an app for everything. All you need is an iPhone (which may need to be unlocked if it’s second-hand) and a good helping of enthusiasm for the task ahead. Note that some of these apps might not appear in your local app stores – just search for them online and download them directly from their websites.
Here is a selection of apps to help you with each stage of renovation project:
1.Houzz
Houzz is an incredibly popular interior design website and it’s not hard to see why. The Houzz app offers a vast selection of high resolution images displaying interiors from all around the world. You can save your favourite looks to your “ideabook” and even purchase some of the products you see.
2.Hutch
Another great design app, Hutch allows you to take a photo of your room and then try out a variety of custom interior design styles on your actual space. It’s a great way to test your ideas before buying furniture.
3.Home Design 3D
This incredible app allows you to create 3D plans of your home and really visualize your renovations. You can design and decorate both the interior and exterior, choosing from thousands of pieces of furniture and accessories. You can edit pretty much anything and then tour your home to see the effect of your changes.
4.RoomScan Pro
Not as technical as Home Design 3D but certainly useful, RoomScan Pro creates floorplans of your home. All you have to do is touch your phone to each wall and the app does the rest, creating accurate measurements from which to plan your project.
5.iHandy Carpenter
If you can never seem to find what you’re looking for in your toolbox, the iHandy Carpenter app may be just the thing for you. The app offers a spirit level, surface level, plumb bob, ruler and protractor in one. Just calibrate the settings and you’re good to go.
6.ColorChange
For those who spend hours agonizing over paint samples or have made colour mistakes in the past, the ColorChange app offers an easy way to see your walls painted in the colours of your choice. You take a photo of your room and then the app isolates the walls and lets you change the colour to your heart’s content.
7.HandyMobi
HandyMobi helps you to plan and carry out your DIY projects. You can follow step by step guides with voice instructions, make lists, purchase materials and share your project with family and friends. There’s also a handy toolbox included with a unit converter, calculator and level tool.
8.Home Improvement Calcs
This is the math wizard of home renovation apps. Home Improvement Calcs allows you to make easy calculations related to your project. There are over 170 pre-programmed calculations and conversions to use.
Downloading the right apps can make home renovations so much easier to manage. With your toolkit in one hand and your iPhone in the other, your latest DIY project is sure to be a breeze.
