When it comes to painting the perfect boys’ room, many guardians are at a loss. The traditional (somewhat boring) blue coat just is not going to cut it anymore! Our aspiring men want VARIATION, something to resemble their everchanging taste and a place that truly represents them. So, how does one merge all this into a few layers of paint?!

Well lucky for those stuck between a rock and a hard place we have gone to the trouble of putting together a few handy ideas when you trying to paint the perfect boys’ room.

Idea ONE – sketch your style

Let’s be bold, let’s be fun and let’s get a little messy. Many boys LOVE to draw, they have a favourite character or perhaps a favourite sport that you can resemble on their walls! Totally unique from anything any of their friends are bound to have, this is a big crowd pleaser amongst young boys undertaking some bedroom renovation.

We are talking giant soccer balls above the bed, Shrek and Donkey sharing some waffles or a Harry Potter mural to enchant the entire room. Painting doesn’t have to be so black and white, sketch a design and fill in the lines!

Not only will this impress the young man in your life, but it will be a great way for him to express himself and get creative with the family (or direct a painter on exactly what he’s after… fostering vital business skills such as delegation).

Idea TWO – black is the new white

Black is the new white, you heard it here first. Have you got yourself a moody artist in the making? Does your boy have a flare for shades, interior design and a somewhat striking taste? Purchasing a litre of black paint is enough to scare off the most laid back of parents, but don’t say no just yet!

The great thing about black is that its durable, it is resilient and honestly timeless. Adding immediate sophistication and class to a young boy’s room, furniture can really pop against the dark backdrop. When we say black, it doesn’t mean exclusively DARKKK black but a choice between the range of shades under the wonderful umbrella of black.

Idea THREE – al naturel

If you have read our blog on the perfect girl’s room, this idea will sound familiar! Let’s face it, young people today have next to no time to be amongst nature. With increased screen times, stacks upon stacks of homework (did we ever have that much?) and a rotating roster of extra curriculars… there is a real lack of outdoors in their lives. In fact, many boys (and people in general) find bedtime difficult and struggle to easily achieve a restful night’s sleep. Our solution to this? Make their room feel like an outdoor oasis!

There are a few ways to do this, such as a light green coat of paint! A cool blue to reflect the ocean’s soothing currents or even warm yellows and oranges like that of a sunset. Then there is the added option of incorporating some leaves, trees, animals and what have you over the paint. Brilliant!

Idea FOUR – patterns

A coat of fresh paint does not restrict you to a simple splash of one base coat and boom you’re done. There is a world of opportunities to choose from! A popular pattern among boy’s rooms is the classic stripe. Depending on his favourite colours, feature a striped wall, Polka dots or any other cool pattern you can think up.

Wallpaper can be restricting at the best of times and quite difficult to perfect. Painting your preferred pattern is a super fun option to jazz up your boy’s room. And don’t worry it is just paint, if you hate it, paint over it and try again!

Idea FIVE – surprise him

Less of a colour scheme and more of a creative buzz. Is there anything quite as anticipated as a room unveil?! We don’t think so. Brainstorm some top ideas with him (feel free to use those mentioned in this blog), put them in a hat and select one at random.

Then depending on whether you are painting yourself or hiring a painter, keep your boy at arm’s length and surprise him with a totally new paint job! A super fun, twist on curating the perfect boys’ room. Not to mention a great tip in managing patience while the paint dries.

Happy painting!
