7 wallpaper designs we love

21st Jul '19 • By Emily Ayers

Wallpaper is a great way to change a room’s design and ambience. Many people decide to purchase wallpaper in order to achieve a certain effect or theme for a room or area. However, not all wallpaper is created equal. While some are there to make the room look simple, modern or classic, others are meant to offer a specific theme, typically expressing a culture or a way of viewing the world.

Wallpaper is often used to hide cracks and other imperfections; in comparison to paint, wallpaper is generally more expensive but can last longer, so is more durable. However, there are areas like the kitchen and bathroom where it is less suited. This is because of the high humidity levels that can exist and cause the wallpaper or lift or peel away.

Here are 7 wallpaper designs that we found to be quite unique and intriguing, which we would like to share with you.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is often used to hide cracks and other imperfections; in comparison to paint, wallpaper is generally more expensive but can last longer, so is more durable. However, there are areas like the kitchen and bathroom where it is less suited. This is because of the high humidity levels that can exist and cause the wallpaper or lift or peel away.

blue wallpaper

The first wallpaper design comes from Cole & Sons. By adding an Eero Aarnio Bubble Chair to the picture and you’ve just gotten yourself a modern-looking room. Although blue is normally a relaxing colour, the hexagonal shapes with black lines add a playful, energising and striking element.  They give the room that edgy feel that many home designers find so appealing today.

Master Bedroom

A master bedroom is not complete without a great wallpaper to match it with. This owner from Mississippi understood the concept and laid this fantastic wallpaper, designed by Lee Sofa. Just don’t forget to get custom embroidered accessories that match the wallpaper. Although there seems to be an abundance of tables, lamps and chairs, the look does not appear overcrowded but instead gives the master bedroom a classic yet chic or elegant feel.

Wallpaper

French scenic wallpapers are the best choice if you want to greet guests with an exotic panorama. It seems that this owner, of a 1754 Georgian residence, from Washington, D.C., got it when he hired Gomez Associates to redecorate his home. This style of wallpaper can be used in both vintage and modern sense and has the ability to match many varieties of décor. For instance, in this case, the look is seamless with the wooden table, chairs and foliage really accentuating the French Scenery.

Dining room wallpaper

Yellow is a warm, vibrant colour and when used as part of a room decoration, is no exception. If you want a warm and relaxing room, then you could use yellow wallpaper with blossoming flowers as part of its design. Just remember to match the curtains, and other accessories, with it. The look above really creates that spring and summer feel, which is great for those cold winter days, when going outside can be a definite no no. The wallpaper here is a perfect match for the table setting and vases of flowers.

Wallpaper

Are you looking for a vintage look? Say no more! Take designer Michael Smith’s advice and use Gracie wallpaper. Its unique look will surprise guests and give your home a classical look. What is outstanding here that this style of wallpaper has been a staple of the Gracie family since 1898 and is hand-painted. The exquisite scenic detail is breathtaking and a unique and eye-catching piece of art.

Brown wallpaper

Offer your entry hall a unique design by choosing striped wallpaper and matching colours to the surrounding area. This is what this homeowner from Chicago did with his apartment’s hallway, and the results are very impressive. The earthy tones create a wonderfully natural look. The accessories here, in particular, the twin lamps and vases are a great extension of this striking wallpaper design.

Roof wallpaper

The upper walls and ceiling of a kitchen should not be omitted from your design plan. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, then this vintage rose-themed design is exactly what you're looking for. Its uniqueness is quite startling and would certainly be a talking point when guests come around. As previously mentioned, just be careful of the humidity levels that a kitchen can generate which can cause the wallpaper to lift or peel.

The seven wallpaper designs above are great examples of how effective wallpaper can be in a room or throughout your house.  Don’t always think “let’s paint” when you want to give your room a new fresh look. Although it will be more expensive, wallpaper has the ability to illustrate a theme and tell a story.

Matched with appropriate accessories, it can make any room a real focal point in your home. Best of all once done, it requires no further work, as it is extremely durable and long-lasting. The benefit of that alone will, in the long run, save you money; if you are a DIY kind of person, then that is great news.
